WHY CHOOSE WOOL?

MOISTURE ABSORPTION

Wool insulates against the cold and keeps you warm even if you get wet or damp, because wool is very hydrophilic. This means that wool absorbs larger amounts of moisture than, for example, synthetic fibres. Because of this, it also keeps the heat longer. Wool can carry up to 35% moisture before the cloth feels clammy. This means that a 100% wool garment can absorb moisture equivalent to 35% of the garment's own weight - without it feeling uncomfortable. By using wool directly on the skin, you reduce the risk of getting chilled. You will notice this particularly well if you are active and get sweaty on your body, and then take a break.

ISOLATION CAPACITY

Clothes made of wool have a high insulating capacity, because the wool fibers are very frizzy. This structure means that millions of small air pockets seal the body's heat in, creating a buffer zone against the cold.

EASY CARE

Wool is easy to care for. All wool from LOPI can be machine washed.

UV PROTECTION

Wool also absorbs UV radiation, and thus provides natural protection against the sun. The strength can vary from UPF 20 to 50+ depending on the thickness and color of the garment.

ODOR CONTROL

Wool has a permanent and natural resistance to the growth of microorganisms, and thus odour. The wool can be used for several days without smelling as long as the wool is dried and aired after use. The reason is a combination of wool's excellent ability to quickly absorb sweat and allow it to evaporate, and that the fibers have a negatively charged, scaly surface. Odor-causing bacteria thrive best on a positively charged, smooth surface, as synthetic fibers often have. Most synthetic fibers can actually increase the degree of bad odor precisely because they create a breeding ground for bacteria.

HEALTHY MICROCLIMATE FOR THE SKIN

Wool's ability to regulate both temperature and humidity, as well as its antibacterial properties, help to create a healthy microclimate for your skin - which in turn can alleviate eczema and other problem skin. An Australian study showed how children with eczema became significantly healthier by using superfine wool, below 17.5 microns, over a longer period.

TEMPERATURE REGULATION

Wool has natural temperature-regulating properties. It regulates your body temperature by absorbing and releasing moisture. If it gets hot, the wool will ensure that it cools down by evaporation. Our bodies do the same, we sweat to cool down. This is how wool regulates body temperature, helping you to neither get too cold nor too hot.
